restoration

Miles Classic provides a complete restoration service for all marques of classic car.

Specialising in the restoration of Jaguar XJC coupes and Daimler Sovereign 2 door saloons, as well as the 4 door variants, Miles Classic is committed to preparing cars of exceptional quality, with an attention to detail usually reserved for more exotic collectibles.

For ease of explanation we have created a menu of 3 restoration packages, Patina, Restored and Modernised, though any combination of these options can be introduced into any of our builds to create a beautifully bespoke restoration that perfectly matches your individuality, style, taste, budget and road going requirements:

Our Patina restorations will ideally begin with an original, low mileage, low owner, well maintained and very useable vehicle.  From this position it is much more sensible to work with the patina and bring the car gently up to the best it can be without undertaking more far reaching restoration techniques.

Service – the following Patina Restoration elements will all be undertaken in combination with a Miles Classic factory plus schedule service to include drained and new fluids, plugs, ignition leads, brake pads, tyres, tracking and the fitting of electric ignition and new dampers all round.

Body & chassis – cutting out, replacing and repairing all rust affected, rotten or damaged areas or body panels with Jaguar parts where available, pattern parts where they are available and deemed to be of sufficient quality or our own high quality specially made in-house repair sections.  Using all welding techniques and new metal or full panels, all evidence of corrosion or damage will be removed.

Paintwork – all paintwork will be treated on an individual basis.  For example, where the original paintwork is good enough, a professional buffing will be applied to bring it back to as new condition.  Where certain panels or areas are not up to the high standard of the rest of the car, selective repainting will be undertaken.  Where the paintwork is generally poor, a full glass out respray may be undertaken.

Running gear – Rear cradle and front cross member sub assemblies will be inspected and repaired or replaced as necessary.  All powertrain, steering, suspension, bushes, brakes and road wheels will be inspected, cleaned, repaired or replaced as necessary.

Interior – the interior including headlining, seating, door and other panels, wood trim, controls, dials and steering wheel will be inspected, removed, repaired and refitted as necessary.  Items that suit the effect such as leather seats, will reflect the polished patina of a classic car of age; and where patina is less liked, such as the woodwork, trim details, headlining and the like, they will be brought up to as near to original showroom condition as possible.

Electronics – the electronic system will be inspected and reconditioned as required.  Full or part loom repairs will ensure all electronic systems operate as they should.

Engine & gearbox – the engine will be inspected and compression tested and any required work will be undertaken.  As a minimum, the engine will receive a full service with renewed plugs and leads; as a maximum we will remove and fully rebuild the engine using all new components.  The gearbox will be tested, inspected and repaired and replaced as necessary.

Exhaust – the exhaust will be inspected and if required will be replaced with a full stainless steel system – making use of existing manifold and downpipes.

Exterior trim – lights, glass, chrome work and road wheels will be brought up to as near new condition as possible.

As a total nut and bolt restoration, our Restored option can be carried out on vehicles of virtually any condition.

It is the intention of this restoration to turn the entire car back to as near new factory condition – with the option of original look sensible upgrades –  as is possible.  As such, all these cars will come with the option of a zero odometer, new Passport to Service stamped with our own PDI and new original owners manual.

Any existing service, owner or other interesting history will be preserved and form part of the finished cars comprehensive records.

Body & chassis – the body and chassis will be completely stripped and undergo a chemical immersion or media blasting cleaning process.  Once cleaned, any corrosion, rust affected, rotten or damaged areas or body panels will be cut out repaired and replaced with Jaguar parts where available, pattern parts where they are available and deemed to be of sufficient quality or our own high quality specially made in-house repair sections.  Once repaired the shell will be e-coated or etch primed, seams will be sealed, panels finished and after a full repaint cavity wax will be injected.

Paintwork – a complete multi-coat repaint of the entire body, chassis and panels will be undertaken.  Paintwork will be returned to the original factory specification colour unless otherwise instructed.

Running gear – both front and rear sub frames will be removed, checked, tested and reconditioned and replaced to as near new condition as possible.  All ancillaries, consumable parts, individual components, bushes, bearings and seals will be replaced with new original equipment or upgraded items.

Interior – the interior will be removed and undergo a full retrim.  Seats, carpets, headlining, door cards, trim and dashboard will be restored to as near new condition as is possible.  Where patina is preferred, the interior can be treated to a sympathetic restoration as described in our Patina option.

Electronics – the electronic system will be inspected and reconditioned as required.  Full or part loom repairs will ensure all electronic systems operate as they should.

Engine and gearbox – the engine will be removed from the car and undergo a total rebuild to as new factory specification as possible.  As a matter of course and unless otherwise instructed we will fit an electronic ignition system.  The gearbox will be removed and rebuilt to as new factory specification as possible.  New filters and fluids throughout.

Exhaust – the car will be fitted with a new stainless steel exhaust system.

Exterior trim – lights, glass, chromework and roadwheels will be brought up to as near to as new condition as possible.

As a total nut and bolt restoration, our Modernised option can be carried out on any car.

It is the intention of this restoration to use the latest available technology, components and parts to create an updated, improved and more modern version of the original car.

Modernised cars can appear totally original with all improvements subtly hidden under the skin, or can be made to include visual differences to clearly display the upgraded nature.

All these cars come with the option of a zero odometer, new Passport to Service stamped with our own PDI and original owners manual.   Any existing service, owner or other interesting history will be preserved and form part of the finished cars overall records.

If required, additional strengthening can be added to improve handling performance characteristics of the chassis, and if preferred stylistic changes of the bodywork can include items such as wider arches, bodywork de-seamed and bumpers removed or upgraded.  Once repaired, the shell will be e-coated or etch primed, seams will be sealed, panels finished and after a full repaint cavity wax will be injected.

Paintwork – a complete multi-coat repaint of the entire body, chassis and panels will be undertaken.

Running gear – the front sub frame will be removed, checked and tested and reconditioned and replaced to as near new condition as possible.  The rear sub frame will utilise any of the available updated cradles, suspension options and the very latest uprated springs and adjustable dampers.  Where requested polybushes will be available all round.  Brake options include vented and outboard discs, uprated callipers and ABS.  Sports differentials can be fitted, together with larger wheels and low profile tyres.  All ancillaries, consumable parts, individual components, bushes, bearings and seals will be replaced with new original equipment or upgraded items.

Interior – the interior will be removed and undergo a full restoration.  Carpet sets, door cards, headlining and dashboard will remain standard items restored to as new condition as possible.  Standard or sports style seating options are available along with bolt on items such as a sports steering wheel.

Electronics – the electronic system will be inspected and reconditioned as required.  Full or part loom repairs will ensure all electronic systems operate as they should.

Engine and gearbox – engine and gearbox options range from a total rebuild to as new factory specification as possible of the original set-up to the installation of the later AJ16 Supercharged engine from the XJR and manual gearbox Getrag 290 5 speed manual.

Exhaust – the car will be fitted with a new stainless steel exhaust system with gas flowed sports manifolds.

Exterior trim – lights, glass, chrome work and road wheels will be new or brought up to as near to as new condition as possible, though more bespoke de-seaming, LED lighting or other stylistic changes can be incorporated.
