Jaguar XJ5.3C Auto – Factory Black (PDE/373) – 1977 – road test miles only since restoration – 7 owners – some history – restored as new

SOLD

A quite simply magnificent, better than brand new Jaguar XJ5.3C restored regardless of cost in its original Black paintwork and biscuit full leather interior.

Purchased with the sole intention of producing a nut and bolt concourse rebuild, SOE 1S presented as a good starting point being a complete and original car albeit with the usual 70s built Jaguar issues of rust, rot and badly maintained engine and mechanics.

Having undergone a complete and exhaustive restoration at Miles Classic, taking over 3 years and costing over six figures, this beautiful car has now covered the requisite 100 miles of road testing for us to be able to claim it as faultless. With no item left unattended to, this has to be one of the very best examples of this wonderful and appreciating classic anywhere in the UK and indeed the world.

Specified to remain as close to original equipment as possible, with just one or two sensible unseen improvements, SE 1S presents today as if holding pride of place in a prestigious 1970s Jaguar main dealer showroom.

Having been completely stripped, the body-shell was media blasted and hand cleaned to bare metal. Some 500 hours of panel work was then spent tackling every sign of rust, rot, dent or dink – cutting out and replacing any corroded or damaged bodywork with bespoke made or available panels. Amongst items replaced were inner and outer sills, floor pans, front cross member, fuel tank closing panels, front and rear valance. Once the metalwork was complete, many more hours were spent fitting, shaping and re-fitting panels and trim to ensure excellent lines and gaps. Following a multi-stage process of painting using the Novol classic car paint system, the mirror finish black paintwork emerged better than it left Browns Lane in 1977.

At the same time the bodywork was being perfected, the interior was being fully re-trimmed in Bridge of Weir soft biscuit leather.

The mighty V12 didn’t miss out either. Removed and stripped, it was rebuilt from scratch with new pistons and rings, new con rods and bearings, it had new timing gear, a new oil pump and water pump. The head was skimmed and new valves, valve guides, springs and seals were fitted. The ignition system was uprated, all fuel and air delivery parts exchanged or reconditioned, new fuel injectors fitted and all components either cleaned off and repainted or plated and passivated as per original finish. Mated to the engine, the gearbox was sent for specialist reconditioning.

Front and rear sub-frames were removed and underwent complete reconditioning and any serviceable item was replaced and uprated as required. All bearings and bushes were uprated. Suspension, brakes, diff, prop shaft were reconditioned or replaced to as new.

The steering system was reconditioned and renewed, the fuel system was reconditioned and had new fuel tanks as well as pumps and change over valves, the chrome-work was re-chromed, the headlights and tail lights are as new.

Fitting the freshly trimmed seats, the interior was treated to a brand new dashboard, all clocks and switches were reconditioned, the headlining replaced, the front and rear header rails replaced, the cant rails were replaced, the door cards were replaced and re-trimmed to match the seats as well as the centre console – a new carpet was fitted over the already generous sound deadening material. The steering wheel was reconditioned.

Putting the car back together, all new screen, side window, scraper and door seals were fitted. Care and attention was given to the refit of all components and sub-assemblies to ensure everything was fitted perfectly, worked properly and presented beautifully.

Enjoying the luxurious and classic surroundings of sitting in the car as driver or passenger does something to prepare you for the experience of travelling in this effortless Coupe, but not everything. It is still somewhat of a surprise to feel the turbine like power, smoothly delivered via the unhurried auto box. Before you know it, you are gliding along at legal limits, suspension wafting you calmly down the road to your destination. Expert fitting of the side windows, means you only get a slight wind noise from the pillar-less design, but given the limitations of the then Jaguar engineering this is a very quiet Coupe. Brakes are progressive and effective, steering direct and responsive and unless you really think about it, you could be mistaken for thinking you are in a recent model high value saloon.

There is so much more that could be said about this uncompromising restoration, but put simply, SOE 1S is a brand new Jaguar XJ5.3C. If you are looking for a brand new Jaguar XJ5.3C, this is the car for you.

Daimler Sovereign 4.2 Auto 2 door saloon – Squadron Blue (265) – 1978 – 116,000 miles – 2 keepers – stamped Passport to Service – extensive history file – full MOT

SOLD

This is an exceptionally well looked after and surprisingly well used, low owner example of the Daimler 4.2 Coupe. The original Passport to Service confirms that this car was first registered to a gentleman on the Isle of Man, where it appears to have remained until its return to the mainland in Wiltshire in 1983. There are plenty of MOT certificates and upkeep invoices for this period until its further private sale in 2008 when once again the new owner took the vehicle out of the country and registered it in France. Conscientiously maintained with paperwork to prove it, the car was again sold in 2014 to the current owner who has officially repatriated it and which is now available with V5, a thick pile of invoices, MOTs and all the previous and very interesting history.

The number of invoices referring to general maintenance and specialist restoration services number in the hundreds. This vehicle comes with one of the most comprehensive history files we have ever seen and the condition reflects this – rather than the round the clock mileage showing on the odometer. It is almost inconceivable that a car that has travelled this distance can present and perform as this one does.

There was some significant bodywork and paintwork done in 1999 and the quality of this is clear to see as the car is straight, clean and beautifully finished in correct period Squadron Blue. There is a tiny area of surface rust on the “A” post where it meets the scuttle panel andSold an equally small area on the driver’s side “C” pillar at the edge of the chrome trim. On the ramp, the underside is solid, clean and well finished, there are perhaps two small areas that have had some professional welding, but there are no signs damage, rust or rot. The attention it has had throughout its life show that the suspension, brakes and steering have all been maintained regardless of cost and are in perfect working order.

There is an invoice for new front seat covers which have been supplied by Aldridge Trimming. Fitted professionally and having the brand new edge taken off with the very light use, the interior presents in excellent and as original patina.

Being prepared for sale, this Coupe has now undergone a total inspection at Miles Classic and has had a full service with all fluids drained and replaced, fuel system check and recommission. The front and rear lights, brakes, suspension, steering, exhaust, all bushes, bearings, ball joints and mounts have been examined and replaced or adjusted as required. The interior electrics, warning lights and window operations have been tested, lubricated and reconditioned as necessary. Attention to the bodywork has been restricted to a full professional buff, chrome detailing and wax. As a package this Coupe can only be described as excellent.

This car is certainly proof of what many in the classic car community think, and that is that a car often used is better than one brought out only on high days and holidays. So given the history and aesthetics on BWS, it is not that much of a surprise that the car drives like a dream. The AED operates correctly and from cold it only needs a quick turn of the key before settling in to an even idle. Once warm the smooth revs drop to a perfect 600rpm and a light snick into drive has you moving effortlessly away from standstill. Imperceptible gear changes are matched by a strong performing XK engine and all forms of modern traffic and road conditions are taken in its stride. At motorway speeds, the car is surefooted, relaxed and particularly quiet… for a Coupe. There is some “A” post wind noise but it is not intrusive. All in all, driving this Daimler two door is a most enjoyable experience and one that could easily see you covering even more big miles with pleasure and confidence.

It is very rare to find a Daimler or Jaguar XJ Coupe variant in this condition without it having gone through a very expensive restoration. Honest, solid, clean and straight, this reliable and eminently useable car is the perfect proposition for someone who is looking to get into a classic XJ Coupe that can be bought and kept without the need for future big expenditure. How many XJCs for sale can you say that about?

Bordeux Red (CEK) – 1988– 60,000 miles – 4 owners – 5 speed manual gearbox

Sold

This is a really nice and very well sorted pre-facelift flagship Jaguar XJS 5.3 V12 convertible with a professional 5 speed Getrag manual gearbox conversion. Although I have no documentation to back up the service history, mileage or stick shift work, I have had the car in the workshop and gone over it with a fine-toothed comb. Purchased in the last 12 months by a Miles Classic car collector customer, he asked us to bring an already great car up to his own impeccable standard and as well as carrying out a full health check and factory service we have also fitted a new stainless steel exhaust, new front brake calipers, discs and pads, reconditioned the steering rack and fitted new wheel bearings. The car now looks, goes, handles and stops and generally does everything without missing a beat.

Used sensibly throughout its life which has helped to keep everything moving and working as it should, the added benefit of a thorough going over by Miles Classic makes this an extremely enjoyable car to spend time in. It starts first time every time, the engine settles quickly and the direct shift into first gets you off the line with an impressive shove. The engine is tight and smooth with excellent oil pressure, gearshift is new car direct, steering and suspension compliant but with the right amount of resistance – it really is impossible to criticise how this drop top gets down the road.

Inside, the Buckskin leather is in perfectly patina, all dials, knobs, switches and electronics work faultlessly and this includes the wonderfully convenient power hood.

On the outside, the Bordeux Red paintwork stands up beautifully, the wheels, the tyres, the chrome, the expensive twin headlamp upgrade and even the colour coded mohair roof all combine to present an impressive and most attractive vision.

Having been unable to resist a different XJS at twice the price, the owner now has one too many 80s Jaguar’s and has asked me to sell on his behalf. I am under no illusions that the lack of paperwork hits the value of this car hard and as such I have persuaded the owner to ask a very reasonable figure to get it away. Be assured however, that this is an excellent car, wonderful to drive, especially with the extra control supplied by the manual gearbox, cosseting and comfortable to be in and very definitely at home on any continental promenade. Come and have a look and test drive, you won’t be disappointed.

Daimler Double Six Two Door Saloon Auto – Silver Grey Metallic (701) – 1975– 86000 miles – 7 owners – some history – recently well documented

Available unrestored:

Sold

This striking silver with red leather V12 Daimler Coupe is a very nice example of what is probably the rarest production car ever to emerge from Browns Lane. With few being built and fewer remaining, these beautifully proportioned and elegant cars are now very definitely regarded as a fast-appreciating classic.

In useable, rather than show condition, this could quite easily represent the last opportunity to get into a Double Six Two Door Saloon for reasonable money. Those who have them are now choosing to keep them, restore them or simply advertise them at telephone numbers. In any case, the cost to secure one is going up.

Having an interesting past, it appears that NBO 977P was exported to Sweden in around 1987 where it remained until 2018 when it was repatriated and sold through Classic Car Auctions to its current owner. There is not much in the way of information before the trip abroad, but it comes with a thick file of quite frankly unintelligible invoices showing that thousands and thousands of Swedish Krona has been lavished on the car during its time in Oslo. It is clear that the owner enthusiast was committed to keeping his Daimler in good condition and this is certainly reflected in the appearance and performance of the car today.

Once sold through CCA, the new owner was responsible for re-registering the car with DVLA and this has been completed satisfactorily with all the necessary paperwork and a new V5 in evidence.

Since 2018, thousands and thousands of UK pounds have been lavished on the car, and this has been in respect of maintenance, rolling improvements and some recommission work. There is little evidence of any major issues recently or in the past with respect to the bodywork or mechanicals and this Coupe presents as a clean, honest and reliable classic.

Having had paintwork many years ago, the bodywork is typical of a good coupe prior to restoration, with the odd blister, bump and scratch, but basically a very solid and sound shell. There is the black paint on the rear edge of the boot lid, which looks like it is hiding something, but isn’t. Perhaps a stylish Swedish nod to the early XJS, who knows.

Over the last few years, a great deal of engine work was undertaken to ensure perfect operation, fuelling and running. Here at Miles Classic, we have had the car in a number of times to resolve small issues and ensure the running gear, brakes and suspension, bushes, bearings and electrical items are all up to standard.

The car looks very well in period silver with red leather interior and the combination delivers a quite dramatic sense of style. Settling into the driving seat and listening to the quiet turbine like whine of the V12 just makes you feel like setting off on a long trip.

And the car drives exceptionally well. It starts every time on the button, with the fuel injection settling quickly. Putting the car in drive it begins to move off imperceptibly and simply wafts its occupants down the road without any drama whatsoever. Useful power teamed with silky gearchanges and the XJ fits into modern traffic like it was built last year. Oil pressure is well over 40psi when the car is warmed up and ticks over at around this figure when idling. The coolant temperature makes its way to the vertical position and remains there whatever the weather and whatever the journey.

Everything on the car works as it should, the windows are fast and smooth, the lights ae excellent, all switches, dials and clocks work perfectly.

Surplus to requirements for the collector owner who has a brace of exceptional Coupe’s, this Daimler will make a splendid everyday classic and could be enjoyed as is with just a little ongoing TLC for years to come. If you prefer, it can form the basis of a very sound rolling restoration project which will undoubtedly secure a significant profit in the long term.

Jaguar XJ4.2C Auto – Squadron Blue (265) – 1978 – 98,000 miles – 11 owners – MOTs from 1988 – large file of invoices

Available unrestored:

Sold

Aremarkably well preserved XJC which has benefitted from regular use and years and years of ownership expenditure to maintain it to a very high standard.

To drive this car is to truly appreciate the amount of effort taken to keep it on-song in every department, from the engine performance, fuelling, gearbox operation, drivetrain, suspension and brakes. From a mechanical point of view, AYC 91S is as good as cars that will command very close to the top end of the market value for this appreciating model. The reason for this is a continuous level of care from all its previous owners, supported by a no compromise, money no object rectification and upgrade programme followed over the last few years by the current fastidious collector owner.

Attended to by specialists Miles Classic, AYC 91S has recently been fitted with the early style HS8 carburettors which not only fuel the XK4.2 engine much more sweetly (if a little more expensively) but do away with the troublesome AED units in favour of an original equipment style manual choke to resolve all those cold start issues. Combined with a full engine service, this car now fires on the button every time, runs smoothly and is one of those rare motors that seems to pull just that little bit harder and faster than the usual still very responsive XK unit.

The gearbox has been fully reconditioned by specialists and although still fairly relaxed and imperceptible in changes, the car gets off the line and down the road at a deceptive lick and keeps going all the way up to good motorway speeds. Keeping up with modern traffic with ease, progress is swift, smooth, calm and enjoyable. There are no knocks, bangs, bumps or unusual noises. The ride is Jaguar compliant and the stoppers all work as they should.

The history file shows extensive work on the suspension, cooling, brakes and some new panels when the car seems to have been last painted in 1990.

In terms of the bodywork, the paint and some panels are showing signs of age, there is the odd minor imperfection, some surface rust issues around the lower front wings, doors and lower rear wings, but a thorough inspection shows the car to be solid and strong in all the areas that might be considered troublesome for Coupe shells. The issues are minor and of a cosmetic nature.

Inside, the trim is in glorious patina style, the blue leather and vinyl upholstery holding up very well and suiting the general original and undisturbed appearance of the package. Everything works as it should, it is a pleasant place to be whether driving or being driven and the best thing of all is the certainty that whatever the journey, it will be made in style, in time and completed without unwanted drama.

AYC 91S is a very good Jaguar 4.2 XJ Coupe and will provide instant driving pleasure to any new owner without the need to invest an immediate injection of cash, which is often the case on this model in this price range. A reliable and honest example that will only get better with continued responsible ownership – AYC 91S will not disappoint.

Sea Frost Blue – 2007 – 83,000 miles – 1 owner – full main dealer history

SOLD

This XJ is without doubt one of the best examples of the early 350s available anywhere. The car has zero previous owners, it has full main dealer service history from the supplying dealer and is in what can only be described as magnificent condition inside and out.

Resplendent in Sea Frost Blue and unmarked Cashmere leather the car is virtually as it was when it left the showroom. The one gentleman owner has lavished an attention to detail on this beautiful saloon rarely seen with any car these days and it is a true testament to him that presents so original and beautiful some 13 years down the line.

As is expected, everything works on the button. The car starts on the first turn of the key and engages gear without a murmur. The V6 petrol engine clearly retains all its 240 horses and powers you down the road with effortless ease Performance is reassuringly brisk, the ride modern day compliant, it is quiet, comfortable and an absolute pleasure to drive and be in.

Specification is XJ Executive level and so it has everything it needs to keep you happy in the driver’s or passenger seats whether pootling to the shops or setting out on a European adventure (when allowed).

A remarkable 350 and very unusual to find in this perfect colour combination and certainly in this condition and with such a fabulous history. One for the collector.

Sable – 1974 – 29,000 miles – low owners – good history – Passport to Service

SOLD

This is a very rare and genuine time-warp series two short wheel base XJ6 saloon, with effectively 1 owner and just 29,000 recorded miles. Purchased on 1st June 1974 by Mr Earnest Lynch of Leicester on his retirement and registered as EML1, he kept the car immaculate, using it sparingly and clearly in the dry right up until his death in 2007. Amazingly, he kept the original bill of sale from Sturgess Leicester and this is still with car as well as other correspondence between the supplying dealer. An obvious enthusiast he had the car Zeibarted from new and the certificate accompanies the car to prove this. A year later he also fitted a stainless steel exhaust system again with documentary evidence in the paperwork.

Presenting beautifully in period and very original Sable, the bodywork is in wonderful condition. As is to be expected, one or two panels have seen high quality paintwork during its lifetime, though this has been undertaken by specialists and does not detract from the highly original appearance. The panel gaps are very good for a jaguar of this period, there is no evidence of rust, all the seals are good and the glass superb. The chrome remains highly polished and complete with no blemishes, dinks or dents.

Most spectacular in this car, however, is the interior which appears to be virtually as it was when it first left the factory. The leather is unmarked and barely worn, the door cards, headlining and dashboard are pristine, it is almost like looking inside a car at your local Jaguar dealership showroom in 1974.

There is a fitted immobiliser and once deactivated, the car starts on the merest flick of the key, with the AED providing the right amount of cold start assistance. The engine ticks over smoothly and quietly and once warm settles down to a regular and factory perfect 600rpm. Everything on the car works as it should, the windows are fast and smooth, the lights are excellent, all switches, dials and clocks work perfectly.

Following Mr Lynch’s death, the vehicle was transferred into his wife’s name and in 2008 she had her solicitor handle the sale to Mr Paul Wenham. Using his contacts in the trade, the car quickly found its way into the hands of classic Jaguar sales specialist Robert Hughes. Robert Hughes researched the history of the car carefully and has signed a letter stating the ownership route and likely genuine mileage of the car. As well as this important document, there is a bundle of paperwork including various invoices from Sturgess, A Ken Bell Jaguar Vehicle Assessment Report and a receipt from Agenta Audio for refurbishment of Radiomobile 8 track and internal rebuild of the AM/FM radio.

The car is supplied with its original Passport to Service and has the first two stamps. It is not known why the service record is not stamped further as there are numerous references to this work being undertaken by Sturgess at the period. Having said that, this is a vital piece of its documented history and will add to the car’s long term collectability.

Purchased by the current owner in 2011, he has maintained it regardless of cost and there are invoices totalling thousands of pounds from respected Jaguar service specialists West Riding Jaguar. Work known to have been undertaking in his stewardship includes, 4 new period style tyres, new ball joints, reconditioned steering rack, new shock absorbers all round, new brake discs, fitted electronic ignition and a new fuel pump to one tank. As well as this specific work it has been serviced every year and had regular visits to a professional bodyshop for any attention required.

The owner has copies of MOT back to 2003, a Jaguar Heritage Certificate , copies of old V5s to support the ownership, various manuals for radio, maintenance charts, colour charts, Jag Drivers Club invite etc all in original wallet and a full spare set of keys and immobiliser key. There’s even an original spare key still bolted under the bonnet.

A very pretty car in the classic XJ style and we think all the more attractive on the short wheel base. This is an outstanding, thoroughly sorted, correct and reliable classic you could use every day, and with a little effort give many more expensive cars a run for their money in the show arena. A real opportunity to invest in a wonderfully useable and appreciating Jaguar.

Sage Green (314) – 1985– 39,900 miles – 3 owners – full service – full history

Sold

Available unrestored:

This is a wonderful example of the fast appreciating XJ-S. Looking absolutely beautiful in the very attractive period Sage Green, the gleaming bodywork shows off the elegant lines of this grand tourer to perfection. The interior is spotless and in excellent condition and the car drives without fault. It comes with original documentation and service record and vehicle check confirming mileage of 40,000.

Delivered new in May 1985, this coupe has had just three owners. As is usual with cars of this type, the original owner kept the car for just three years, in which time he covered around 15000 miles. In September 1986 the first service at 7527 miles was undertaken by Liverpool main dealer Jaguar House and the second service in August 1987 at 14081 was completed by Southern Brothers in Blackburn.

The car then changed hands to its second owner who appears to have fitted a private plate and used it so sparingly that unfortunately there is a period without service records or other paperwork. I am assured by the third owner that the car was laid up in excellent condition around 2006 and remained unused for many years, when he finally purchased it in 2017. Finding it with less than 40,000 miles on the clock, which he was told was genuine, the car had suffered paint degradation and some mechanical issues Spending a significant sum, the third owner had the car returned to roadworthiness and had it professionally repainted in its original colour.

Finding that he didn’t have time to enjoy the car, the XJ-S came to Miles Classic quite recently and has now gone through a more thorough investigation, restoration and detailing.

Miles Classic has completed a full recommission undertaking work on the suspension, steering, brakes and fuel delivery. We have looked closely at the bodywork and corrected some minor imperfections. The car has had a comprehensive service with all gaskets, bushes, seals, bearings, filters and fluids checked, replaced or changed. This XJ-S now presents at show standard, it drives faultlessly, it goes very well, stops quickly, changes gear imperceptibly and glides along effortlessly in style and comfort. It is a pleasure to be inside.

Offered for sale with full MOT and very recent additional service, OSK 785 comes complete with private number plate, original paperwork and even original dealer window sticker.

It has to be remembered that this is a 35 year old motor car and should be looked at under those terms. It is not perfect and a dedicated new owner could well make improvements, but as a car that could be driven to shows, win a prize and driven home, it is second to none.

If you are looking for an XJ-S V12, and to be honest why wouldn’t you be, a viewing and test drive of this exceptional car will have you searching for your cheque book without delay.

White (250) – 1976– 67500 miles – 2 owners – some service – some history

Sold

Available unrestored:

This Series 2 XJ12 5.3 4 door long wheel-base saloon drives like it left the factory a month ago. Haig covered just 67,000 miles, it is quite extraordinary how good this car feels on the road. It is powerful, quiet and super smooth. Having undergone a recent and exhaustive recommission by Miles Classic, the car is nothing short of mechanically perfect. The often tricky fuel delivery system is faultless, the engine simply does not miss a beat, oil pressure is excellent, the gearbox is imperceptible, the ride is silky and the brakes beautifully balanced. The new bushes and bearings deliver direct and confidence inspiring steering, though if you do leave your toe in you will have to be quick with the hands as there is plenty potential to get the back wheels spinning! The notoriously suspect panel fit is excellent and the body is rot free.

The interior is in dark blue leather and is in wonderful condition, the headlining is original and intact the carpets are largely original with just front footwell replacements. Windows are smooth and fast, all lights, switches and heater controls work. The original radio is fitted although the 8 track needs attention. The air con has been ignored on this recommission.

There has been paint in the past as is identified in some of the cars documentation, and this looks very much like the work of the 1970s – it is not the best and there are some very minor signs of surface rust – storage style blemishes. The car is by no means shabby in appearance and quite presentable, but it will not win any awards on this finish. If this car had a professional repaint, it could well double its value.

PLD 500R was purchased new by James Adams in August 1976. Mr Adams used the vehicle as his company car and did limited mileage throughout his ownership. On his death in 1994 the V5 was transferred into his wife’s name, Mavis Adams when the mileage was in the region of 58,000 miles. The car was then used sparingly by the family until in 2004 when it was parked in Mrs Adams’ garage and stored. During the Adams’ ownership, some minor accident damage has occurred and some bodywork and paintwork has been undertaken.

In 2017, the car was purchased by Miles Classic and after simply fitting a new battery, the car fired up and was transported back to the workshop. The car was then further stored with the intention of recommissioning at a later date.

In October 2019, PLD 500R was retrieved from storage, starting with only minor effort, it was brought back to Miles Classic where the recommissioning work began in earnest. Although the car ran, it was intermittent, failing to run on one tank and missing quite badly. There was a knock on the front suspension, a knock on the gearbox mount and the capacity of the brakes was unknown.

The fuel in the tanks was ancient and bad and it was drained out. Both tanks were closely inspected on the car, the left-hand tank was in excellent shiny condition, but the right hand tank was showing signs of rust and debris. The right-hand tank was then filled with a rust treatment solution, left overnight, drained and then further washed out with solvent based chemicals. On final inspection the right hand tank was now in very useable condition.

A new fuel injection fuel pump was fitted.

The reason the right hand tank wasn’t able to fuel the car was as a result of faulty change over valves. These were all renewed and the wiring to each one checked and tested thoroughly. Following this work, the fuel being delivered to the engine was clean, consistent and flowing correctly.

The rear subframe was removed from the car and both front and rear subframes underwent full recommissioning. This included:

Remove all brake discs and replace with new

Removal of all brake callipers and refit with reconditioned sets all round

Fit new brake pads all round

Remove all shock absorbers and springs and refit with good used parts

Fit new wheel bearings all round

Fit new top and bottom ball joints

Fit new bushes

Fit new subframe mounts

Check and test UJs on drive shafts and prop shaft.

After recommissioning the fuel delivery, PLD 500R was given a complete and extended service. This included:

New spark plugs

New parts for the ignition system

Check and test injectors and replace where necessary

Air filter

Fuel filter

Oil filter

Drain and refill with new engine oil

Drain and refil with new gearbox oil

Drain and refill with new diff oil

Drain and refill with new anti-freeze coolant

Drain and refill new windscreen washer fluid

Fit new windscreen wipers

Check and test lighting system and replace bulbs where necessary

The bodywork is showing signs of age and the paintwork carried out in the 70s is not to standard. However, the panelwork is straight, the gaps are good, there is no rot and rust blemishes are limited and minor. Areas of paintwork have been touched in and the whole car has been professionally buffed and polished and presents well from where it started. The car would benefit from a full A surfaces repaint but at this stage of the recommission it has been decided to enjoy the car as it is.

The interior is in truly fabulous patina style. The headlining has been refitted where it had sagged, the blue leather is gloriously soft and in excellent condition, the front footwell mats have been renewed, but all other carpet is original and a little threadbare but suits the car beautifully. All the clocks and dials work, all the interior lighting, the radio, balance and fader, though sadly not the 8 track as yet. Dashboard is not cracked, screen is clear, all the switches, windows, heated rear screen and the heater blows hot. It is a fabulous place to be.

PLD 500R has been a well loved and cherished family and effectively 1 owner car. As a magnificent starting point, it has now been sympathetically though thoroughly recommissioned and presents as a reliable, smooth, powerful and charismatic Jaguar XJ12 series 2 saloon. Simply wonderful.
